Assault Weapons Ban 2015 Eliminates Dangerous Assault Weapons from our Streets

Dateline: April 1, 2017 Washington D.C.

After a whirlwind first quarter as the first female president of the United States, Hillary Rodham Clinton was joined by congressmen and senators in the oval office for the official signing of H.R. 4269 “The Assault Weapons Ban of 2015”. Joining Ms. Clinton was Rep. David N. Cicilline, Democrat, Rhode Island the bill’s original author.

“It has been a long road, but we got it done.” Rep. Cicilline said gleaming after the signing. He continued, “There is no reason in that anyone other than the government needs to own or buy an assault weapon. Support for the bill naturally increased with the election of President Clinton and for that we are grateful.”

After placing her signature on the historic document, Pres. Rodham Clinton said “I am proud to put my name this most important of laws. We took what my dear departed husband started when he signed the 1994 Crime Bill and expanded it. There will be no loopholes or sunset clauses to put future generations at risk.”

What’s To Come

During the official media event that followed, White House Press Secretary Jessica Carney-McCarthy (the nation’s first openly gay, transgender WH Press Sec) stated that Pres. Rodham Clinton saw HR 4269 (The Assault Weapons Ban of 2015) as a “good first step” but that the ultimate goal had to be the complete elimination of weapons of war from the hands of citizens. “The president feels that as long people can still own these killing tools, criminals will be able to steal them. She is willing to explore buyback programs and limited amnesty before discussing confiscation.” McCarthy related.

H.R. 4269, The Assault Weapons Ban of 2015 originally wavered during the final months of the B. Hussein Obama administration. However, when Clinton officially received the Democrat party nomination she made public safety and gun violence a key part of her platform. Then-candidate Clinton made good on her campaign promise to sign the bill the moment it reached her desk.

Riding the primary election coattails of Clinton were several Democrat congressmen and senators. The Republican party, stinging from the presidential defeat, had no further stomach to fight the first woman president of the United States on such a critical public safety issue. With unwavering support in the press, Clinton aided both the House and Senate in wrangling H.R. 4269 past the few legislators who had remained loyal to the diminishing gun lobby.

The Ban

The Assault Weapon Ban of 2015 picks up where the 1994 Crime Bill left off when it sunset in 2004. Unlike the original Crime Bill, AWB 2015 means gun makers will not be able to circumvent the spirit of the law by modifying their guns with special stocks or bullet-button devices. AWB 2015 makes reasonable exceptions for firearms that are designed only to be used for target sports and hunting. These exceptions were embraced by level-headed organizations such as Veterans for Responsible Solutions.  Spokesmen for the Veterans group applauded the courage of Pres. Clinton and Rep. Cicilline.

Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Rep. Gabby Giffords joined supporters of The Assault Weapons Ban 2015 at a post-signing celebration party in Washington D.C. Numerous Hollywood celebrities and personalities were on hand including Jack Black, Jennifer Garner, Chris Rock, Beyonce and many more. Both Bloomberg and Giffords expressed gratitude to the celebrities on hand for their efforts in campaigning for The Assault Weapons Ban 2105 through very serious black and white videos. Security for the event was understandably tight and armed bodyguards checked invitations at the door for fear of reprisals from gun-lobby supporters.
